Renesas RH850: iC5xxx to iC7mini BlueBox RH850 Software Trace (SFT) migration

29-Jan-2025

In contrast to the iC5xxx BlueBox, the iC7mini only supports RH850 Software Trace (SFT)  where the data is stored to the SoC on-chip trace. iC7mini doesn't support SFT where the data is streamed outside the SoC to the debugger’s hardware through the LPD debug interface. However, the iC7pro supports both.

You can:

  • Use SFT on-chip trace operation or
  • Upgrade the iC7mini to iC7pro to stream SFT through the LPD debug interface.

SFT on-chip trace operation

1. Open Hardware | CPU options | Analyzer Operation mode and select On-Chip.

Note that this works only on devices where trace RAM is available.

2. Enable Manual Hardware Trigger via View | Analyzer | Analyzer Configuration | Options.

3. Press Configure, select the desired core trace source, e.g. SRC_PE1, and tick the following checkboxes:

  • Enabled
  • Record SofTrace
  • Record internal timestamp

This will enable unfiltered SofTrace recording until the recording is stopped or the trace buffer is full. Make sure that the Execution and Data trigger configuration is empty.
