LDRA Test tools: How does the FlexLM license server work?

10-Jun-2026

The LDRA FlexLM license server is tied to a specific machine. This machine runs the license server software and is the only machine on which that license server instance can operate.

Clients on the network can access licenses from the license server, provided they are permitted by the license terms.

Standalone licenses

For standalone licenses, the license is tied to a single machine. The same machine both hosts the license and uses it.

Because the license is bound to a specific machine, no IP range is required.

Network licenses

For network licenses, the license server runs on a designated server machine and issues licenses to client machines over the network.

When LDRA starts, it contacts the License Server and requests a license. If:

  • The license is valid for the version of LDRA being used, and
  • A license is available,

the license server grants the request, and LDRA starts normally.
