LDRA Test tools: License Server not running - "Wrong hostid on SERVER line for license file"

07-May-2026
Cause

This error indicates a mismatch between the license.dat file and the machine being used as the license server.

Possible reasons and solutions

License issued for a different machine

The license was generated for another machine and cannot be used on this one.

Resolution

Use the license only on the machine for which the license.dat file was issued.

The license was issued for another machine and is not for use on this machine

Use only on the machine for which the license.dat was issued.

License moved to a new machine

The original machine has been decommissioned, and the license.dat file and license server utilities were moved to a new system.

Resolution

You need a new license.dat.

1. Create a new .info file.

2. Request a “Server Change” from the Technical support.

Hardware or OS changes affected Hostid

Hardware changes or an operating system reinstall may have altered the machine’s hostid, making the license invalid.

Resolution

You need a new license.dat.

1. Create a new .info file.

2. Request a “Server Change” from the Technical support.

Incorrect license directory (Windows only)

The license file is placed in the wrong directory (FTYPE vs. LTYPE).

Resolution

Move the license.dat file to the correct directory and restart the license server.

Removable hardware used during license generation

Removable hardware (e.g., docking station, Wi-Fi dongle) was connected when the .info file was created, affecting the hostid.

Resolution
  • Reconnect the same hardware, or
  • Create a new .info file, and request a “Server Change” from the Technical support.
