TLM: Rehost a license

24-Apr-2026

Rehosting allows you to move a license from one machine/host to another.

Prerequisites
Rehosting is available only with:

  • an active maintenance contract for perpetual licenses or
  • an active subscription license

If your maintenance contract is currently not active, we are unfortunately unable to process a rehost request. Please note that the maintenance grace period is 30 days and applies only to renewing maintenance; it does not permit rehosting without active maintenance. For assistance, please contact your dedicated account manager or contact our sales team to discuss the best option to restore rehost eligibility and related entitlements.

Possible Solution

Please contact us with the following details:

  • Serial number
  • License key
  • Computer ID (CID) for rehosting a node-locked license
  • Security ID (SID) for rehosting a Local License Server license

Find the serial number
  • From the product IDE, open Help | About | Installation Details | TASKING License.
  • From a command prompt, you can use the option -V.
For example, if you are using the TASKING TriCore VX-toolset, use ctc -V .

Find the license key
  • The 16-character node-locked license key can be found in the file <installation-directory>\etc\licopt.txt.
  • The license key of your local license server can be found in the file licdopt.txt (default location: C:\Tasking).

Find your new Computer ID (CID) for rehosting a node-locked license

Download and run the GetCID program on the new computer.

Find your new Security ID (SID) for rehosting a Local License Server license

1. Install the TASKING Local License Server on the new server.

2. Open a command prompt as administrator and run licd -I to obtain the security ID.

For more detailed information, see Installing a Local License Server.
