Emulation Adapters: Clock source configuration

09-Jun-2025

Emulation Adapters are configured by default to use the target board clock source. This configuration is set on jumpers J2 and J3, or DIP switch DIP2. The default position is set closer to the Pin 1 marking.

However, when using a crystal circuit oscillator on the target board, it might lead to the clock signal:

  • Not being generated.
  • Being unstable (not the desired frequency).
  • Have increased jitter.

Solution

1. Set both jumpers/DIP2 switch away from the Pin 1 marking.

2. Insert the provided crystal circuit oscillator in the Q1 socket.

3. (optional) If a different clock frequency is required:

    a. Insert the appropriate crystal into the Q1 socket.

    b. Replace the default capacitors with the proper value.

The default crystal and capacitor value might differ depending on the type of Emulation Adapter. For more information, refer to the specific Emulation Adapter Hardware User Manuals.
